Anger in Hungary as university bill targets CEU

Hungary's conservative-dominated parliament has passed a controversial bill that could force the closure of a popular foreign university in Budapest.

The parliament changed the rules that regulate the country's 28 foreign universities, stating they must have a campus in their country of origin.

The Central European University (CEU), registered in New York, is the only university to fall foul of the new law.

Al Jazeera's Charlie Angela reports from Budapest.

Well then, Georgie boy will just have to open a campus in New York; or argue that, having been born in Hungary, and the university being his idea, that it does indeed have a campus in its country of origin, and they're looking at it.

I love how after the provost says "politics", he gives a quick side-eye. He'd do so well in comedy. 😂😂😂 But I suppose Hungary's going to outlaw satire too. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's adorable that the EU thinks it champions liberalism and democracy.

Others in Hungary are very willing to accept that the legal anomalies around all foreign-funded universities are cleared up. we do not like the idea of trying to turn this into Maidan-like political coup. Poor, poor Soros, how unfair!
