Multiple reports suggest China wasn't providing accurate coronavirus-related data and concealed the extent of the outbreak early on during the pandemic. Former U.S. ambassador to the UN Samantha Power says China's actions early on in the pandemic "absolutely" need to be investigated. Canada has yet to call for any such investigation.

it was a warning for almost 2 months and still many countries have not taken it serious in the beginning

Why does CBC selectively allow comments on videos?

It seems to me that the Canadian governments ignored the warnings coming out of China. I seem to remember "its not the time for knee jerk reactions" coming out of PMs mouth.

If we're going hold China accountable, will we be holding our leaders accountable for there ineptitude?

Didn't anyone realise the virus is a very serious one back in January when china started to build two hospitals in a like a week ?

We should also investigate on why Canada and US was informed by Intelligence early in January and decided not to respond to it.

Let’s be clear, if it comes to the blame game dont blame the Chinese people but blame the Chinese government for hiding it from the public

This reporter tends to do a much better job than most CBC reporters. I don’t want left wing news or right wing news I just want an honest effort by a reporter to leave their political bias at home.

Canada did not close its boarders until it was too late. Now they want to open schools in Quebec. Smh, why aren’t you talking about that?

This is Canada. Being politically correct is more important than being actually correct, even if it involves loss of human lives.

If I remembered correctly, Toronto had 3 cases for the first 2 month, and it was contained. The government told us it's a low risk and we don't have to worry about anything. Until March when some lady came back another country, Iran maybe I forgot, was diagnosed. And appearently she was on a few bus. And the next thing u know my classes are online. Don't blame anyone but urself. All y'all had to do was to quarentine travelers for 14 days. But nah. It's like China locking down a city and quarentine the entire country wasn't enough of a sign of how serious this is

As if China would let independent investigators in. She's funny funny.

Wow, that was a pretty wishy-washy answer from the deputy prime minister. Far top diplomatic

Translation: we should wait to see how other countries react, then do what they do. 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah, sorry, but when you've spent years selling the China is untrustworthy spiel for years, or that people were salivating of their economic collapse, or that they were draconian for locking down everything over the outbreak, you don't get to complain about it when it hits you. Especially since you have people protesting about having to stay inside. If China didn't lock down fast enough, it's for the same reason you didn't lock down fast enough. I had a relative who still went traveling in late February for god's sake. People are morons. Especially if it's a new disaster. But somehow people have this notion that China has nefarious motives because they didn't lock it down the moment someone sneezed. And apparently 50k cases at the time wasn't the real enough number for everyone else to move their asses.

Wuhan shut down at the end of January but the Canadian officials told me everyday that "the risk is low".
