Cancelling Class Dojo is the solution?! #teachers

That’s such a shame. I’m surprised this has not happened with my school district. They don’t trust teachers at all to be decent humans, yet they trust us enough to give us 20+ kids everyday and they 1000 responsibilities.

My kids district uses Remind. I love it for announcements and messages. If they start monitoring @ the county level.
Then 1. They have way too much time and money on their hands. It would probably be read by AI and flagged for certain words
and 2. I am out as a parent (I am also an instructor) as I do not need my messages read by those who do not work directly with my child

Same here in my district. Forcing us to use Remind so they can monitor it. Also, they are mandating that email is used as a secondary backup only system; parents have to be on Remind to get any school or district updates.

I just wonder if it's a violation of FERPA for the county to have open access. What is the clear educational purpose?

I love classdojo. I use it to communicate with parents, show what they did on the day, take pictures of events, share videos of student projects, and post reminders about upcoming school events like when we have a test.

Same in my district. I love Class Dojo but Kinvo is our new system. I actually like it, though. District can see any negative remarks and I don't have to find email/ phone numbers since it is all connected through the district's system. I send announcements only.

It’s icky that I agree with the county here. It could help reduce some of the “he said, she said” between parents and teachers. It can help address inappropriateness parent-teacher relationships. It could also better help with monitoring abuse and protecting the school from liability issues. Also if a teacher is absent or out for some reason, administration can see what was said in those conversations in case a parent tries to lie and say the teacher promised something they didn’t. However, those reasons are probably not really why the county is doing that, knowing Florida.

My guess is they wanted to monitor it for possible liability and abuse.

Im a ClassDojo mentor, at our school we had a problem with staff sending inappropriate messages. One case was flirting with a married man, second was a teacher fighting with a parent. It went on for too long since the messages were private and no one could access them. Its also a way for the parents to have access to you all the time to complain, demand, etc.

We were told dojo was out because they don't store records long enough. I'm also in Florida.

Wait. Teachers and parents hate to have their behavior constantly monitored by someone with power above them? But that's exactly what Class Dojo does to kids. So is it ok for teachers to do it to kids, but not ok for teachers to have the same exact thing done to them? The irony is amazing.

Our county did the same thing! Along with the county being able to monitor, the new system does not allow the same video content that Class Dojo did. I do however, still use Dojo for the ESL content.

Our district is going the same thing! Didn't realize that was the reason. It makes sense now.

We are no longer using DoJo because parents were abusing it. Expecting to be able to text with teachers 24/7.

Yep. My school is doing the same. But the system they are replacing everything with doesn't work. Lol. Oops.

My mom would have really benefited from this when I was in school 😂 she never called them she just let me get in trouble until one of them caught her at a band practice and she’d say oh no she’s fine I had her.

Yup…..I had no idea they were doing this at my school. Every key stroke was monitored. Now I know why the teacher prior to me, had used her own laptop.
