I was shocked that Marvels first Graphic Novel "The Death of Captain Mar-vel" wasnt mentioned as it touches on our ultimate fear and on how much superheroes have in common with us, thus pointing out how much superhero we have in ourselves ... And yes the "Phoenix Saga" brought a tear (at the time) to my eyes, not mentioning the X-men's "God Loves, Man Kills" i think thats an injustice to the brilliant story writing skills that once prevailed in the genre of comic books ... despite the above mentioned this was an interesting video

Also God loves man kills, Kraven's Last Hunt, The Coming of Galactus, Old man Logan.

While I love Peter David's work, and the Death of Jean DeWolff was one of the first Spidey trades I bought...Kraven's Last Hunt is a far more iconic and worthy entry for this list. It's just, simply --the best Spidey story ever told. Hands down.

Very true that Marvel was slow getting to the more “sophisticated” storylines when compared to DC. DC in the late 80s was putting out a lot of sharp new takes on existing characters, whereas Marvel was adding bigger and bigger guns to X books and more Liefeld clones.

Gotta say, even tho I love Born Again, Bendis’s run on DD is just next level stuff. Best man without fear run and storylines of all time

My sister knew I was a big comics fan, and got me Marvels one year. It blew me away, still one of my faves. Great list!

Silver Surfer: Requiem is another must read. I didn't really care for Silver Surfer until I read that book.

Both Jonathan Hickman & Mark Waid's Fantastic Four are freaking amazing

and DnA's Guardians of the Galaxy is also an epic cosmic run.

I remember reading Marvels back in 2007. I didn't think much about it then, but the one story that stuck out to me was the one involving the X-Men and the parallels to the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s. Even for my 11-year old self, this was very impressive. Nice job Alex Ross and the writer whose name I just forgot while writing this comment down. :) LOL

I would have picked one of the two most iconic Doctor Strange graphic novels: The Oath, elements of which were used in the solo moved; and Into Shamballa, which not only delved into issues of spirituality and hard choices, but also has to be one of the most stunningly rendered graphic novels, with each panel being a watercolor painting.

Man Without Fear and Guardian Devil are amazing, and Frank Millers first run on Daredevil, especially when he switched from artist to writer for the series, was pretty great, too. I wasn't able to get into any other comics the way I got into Daredevil. Except for Watchmen, but that's a different beast entirely.

to be honest, I haven't read many of these stories (though I now intend to) I feel the original Civil deserves at least an honorable mention, it was a pretty pivotal story arc as well as being genuinely interesting

I think that Wolverine Origin, E Is For Extinction, Kravens Last Hunt, Guardian Devil, Avengers Disassembled, and Secret Wars should've been on this.

When it comes to Spider-man its a hard decision. Death of Gwen Stacy, Kraven's last hunt, Symbiote saga, the retelling of his origin in the Ultimate comics and Spider-man No more. But my personal favorite is "the kid who collects Spider-man" No costumed villain just real world circumstance. Or if you want any even sadder entry. Spider-man "Leah" prepare yourself for that one.

Marvels by Kurt Busiek & Alex Ross was a wonderful homage to the Classic Marvel Comics era, from 1939-1973 or so; it deserves the #1 slot in your list IMHO. And, Yes, I do have my copy! 😁❤️
Same with Infinity Gauntlet! Loved it and am currently re reading it in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War/Endgame. As Jim Starlin noted, "Its essentially about a guy who wants to impress his girlfriend. Many fans can identify with that.
Demon in A Bottle is one storyarc I am still hoping to get one of these days.
Other candidates that deserved mention:
Nick Fury/Wolverine: The Scorpio Connection was an excellent look into Colonel Fury's past and character- proving that one Really Should be Careful about one Wishes for.
Fury (1994) was a oneshot that can pass as a Graphic Novel, giving the origin of S. H. I. E. L. D. .
Union Jack: London Falling- A splinter group of A. I. M. threatens to destroy the capital of the United Kingdom, and only Union Jack, and a handful of lesser known Marvel heroes stand in their way.

I love the winter soldier and dark phoenix saga. Much love from southern California.

Marvel's "Countdown to Dark" is their best graphic novel period. I have yet to read a story from them better than that and it's a Moon Knight comic nonetheless.
