I was a snot nosed brat in 72 when drift away first came out. My mother had the record released by Mike Berry. I've loved this song for as long as I can remember. I'm a little conflicted by the new version but it seems to be growing on me. For the record: Mentor Williams (Paul Williams Brother) wrote this song first recorded and released by Mike Berry in 1972. Dobie Gray covered it the next year and made it the iconic melody it is today. I love me some Dobie Gray but let's give credit where credit is due.

Listen, growing up, this song was WAY overplayed. (obviously not this exact song). I can still appreciate the new version. I'm 31 and my parents brought me up on classic rock/country. It's refreshing to hear tune you grow up with and it has a new twist on it. Mutual appreciation from old generation to new.
