A supporter of Siddaramaiah declared the Congress leader as the next CM candidate, and Karnataka Pradesh Congress president DK Shivakumar hinted at his candidacy for the top job at a Vokkaliga community meeting despite orders from the party high command to refrain from an open discussion on chief ministerial candidates. “The (Vokkaliga) community has a great opportunity this time that shouldn’t be lost," said DK Shivakumar during a Vokkaligas gathering called to talk about the community's demand for reservations on Sunday. After SM Krishna, Shivakumar said that a Vokkaliga has once more been elected as the KPCC president. At a celebration honouring Kanakadasa Jayanti on Sunday in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah's close aide and Hebbal MLA Byrathi Suresh proclaimed the leader of the Congress Legislature Party to be the "future CM." The announcement was made with Siddaramaiah present.
