There's a new drone in town. It automatically controls your GoPro and has an amazing autopilot.

Don't know whether to buy the Dji phantom 3 or the 3D robotics solo.
Any suggestions?

Something there was wrong. Drone was too shaky all the time, video footage did not look great.

Verge do a review of another underdog the AirDog!
Their concept is much better ;)

Greetings from Latvia.

With only 20 mins of flying time, does it also auto land before the battery runs out?

Feels like I need one... Don't know what for though

Nice piece, but the purpose of this drone is to make some nice videos, right ? the only problem I see now is that this video was shaky almost all the time . The software is "work in progress", but is also the gimbal / vibration damping parts also work in progress or this is the final version ? I really don't care about all the features if the video shakes like this, hope the shake will not be visible in the final versions ...

About powerlines, and other obstacles, I didn't understand so far how the solo will help me ? A sonar I'm not sure it can detect powerlines, but maybe I'm wrong, are there sonars or other devices mounted onboard to detect objects in all directions and avoid crashing ?

I have a GPS enabled hexa but I always want to fly it myself, and not let the drone do what  it wants, there are times when I was in need of the "circle around building" feature but those scenes maybe are 5 - 10% of the entire shots I made with a my hexa, the other 90% are made in Stabilize / Atti mode

The real value of 3DR solo is being able to have fully control with code, that's priceless!!

Here in Chile you need a license to fly a drone due to too much people having stupid accidents with those things.

Now this is impressive! Drones have come along way and are really setting the bar for the future!

Wondering if the Solo comes with or without the GoPro.  Already have one I'd like to use....GoPro that is.

DJI Phantom 3 Pro (includes gimbal, extra battery and 4k camera) costs $1, 359 in Amazon.
3DR Solo is $999+$220 (gimbal) + $499 (GoPro Black) + $149 (battery).  That is almost $1, 900 we are talking about.

Would you guys willing to spend $500+ more on 3DR Solo under the circumstances that you are buying the drone for the first time?

I seen this copter at their head quarters a month ago on that roof top and it was way faster and smarter than the DJI Phantom. This is the new copter I will be getting and I have been flying the DJI Phantoms since May 2013. I live in Emeryville right next to these guys.

Looks really cool but can you fly a different camera? I'm just not too crazy about GoPros for films...

if you don't get the gimbal can you still control the gopro through the app?? or do you have to get the gimbal for sure

Will the new MissionPlanner GUI also be avaiable for the old APM and Pixhawk?
Would be cool...

I think this drone is mostly aimed towards those who already have a GoPro camera while the Phantom 3 are aimed at those who don't have a gopro, so it includes its own camera.
