The RCMP (Mounties) do not have any jurisdiction to protect and enact municipal and provincial laws within the city, agglomeration and region of Montreal. These responsibilities lies within the SPVM or any local municipal police forces within the region. On the same token, the provincial police, Sureté Québec, also protect and enact legislation that's within the province. The Mounties are the federal police force that can both enact municipale, provincial and federal laws in most of the cities and provinces in Canada, that is not within Québec or Ontario.
