MIDWOOD - Avenue J was renamed today in memory of a man who locals say formed a bridge between the Caribbean and Orthodox Jewish communities.

Yoseph Robinson was killed nearly three years ago while trying to protect his girlfriend during a robbery attempt. He told others to run while he struggled with the gunman inside a store.

Robinson immigrated from Jamaica to Midwood and said he left behind a life of criminal activity when he converted to Orthodox Judaism.
