Musical Glove - Computerphile

The MiMu electronic glove musical instrument inspired Helen Leigh to create a kids version; the MiniMu - We caught up with her at EMF Camp.

When she told the story about the kid who asked if the glove could notice if it was freefalling, I hoped the boy would program it to play the Wilhelm scream. I was slightly disappointed when she came to the end of that story

steve hogarth had some awesome midi gloves with triggers in the fingertips when he joined marillion, and this was proper serial midi that had to be transposed for wireless transmission. he attributed the tech to “a genius in kingston-on-thames”

Great now where were the teachers and tech 20 years ago? :/ Even now I doubt many will find a teacher or have parent who will let them near such nice things at age 5-15.

This is amazing. I remember seeing Imogen's tech many years back. My mind was racing with ideas if I were to get this in the hands of my mom's classroom.

I had a similar idea years ago. Because I drum to music with my fingers, I wanted to make a glove with piezos on the fingertips that could connect to a digital drum. Never done it though..

So they can connect the glove to filter cutoff and do an interesting fist pump dance?

Do that setup only work with Sound or Can i get an other for of output from it ? Mabye for capturing movements of an example walking human or animal that i Can use for Real animation ?

What about an app? You would just need to somehow wrap the phone around the gloves

It might be easier and much more satisfying for kids to learn to play an instrument rather than inventing toys for them. Are there not enough toys yet ?
