OB-X8 Desktop & Stymon Volante // Just Sounds

Показать описание
Drew and Jeff take turns demoing the new Oberheim OB-X8 Desktop Module, which makes the Oberheim sound more accessible than ever!
In 1977, Tom Oberheim introduced the OB-1—the first completely programmable synthesizer. The next year, Dave Smith's Sequential Prophet-5 design was released as the first synth to employ microprocessors for storing sounds, making it possible to recall previous patches with ease. Then, in June 1979, Oberheim introduced the first OB-series polyphonic analog subtractive synthesizer—the OB-X—to compete with the Prophet-5, which was subsequently replaced by the OB-Xa (1980) and OB-8 (1983).
Designed with today’s synth players in mind, the new Sequential OB-X8 combines Oberheim’s original three signature OB polysynths—the OB-X, the OB-Xa, and the OB-8—into one single unit! As with the Sequential-made OB-6, the OB-X8 released in 2022 was designed and built in collaboration with Oberheim’s longtime friend Dave Smith. Together, these synths represent the first new Oberheim designs to be released in over three decades.
Hear the Oberheim OB-X8 desktop module here, controlled with the help of an Arturia KeyStep 37 MIDI keyboard controller—with a little added echo coming from the Strymon Volante effects pedal in the signal chain—then, head to the Synth Exchange to get your hands on the Sequential OB-X8 desktop module, yourself!
