Paper Cutting Machine Shaft Part 1- American Pacemaker Lathe Work

preview_player
Показать описание
We had a local paper cutting business reached out and ask if we could help them machine a new shaft for one of their large paper cutting machines. We'll fire up the ole American Pacemaker lathe to complete this job. The tubing they supplied to build this shaft will need to be turned from end to end and includes counterbores and threads machined on both ends. This was a lengthy job so I split this up into two videos. #machineshop #manualmachining #lathe

Most respect to you, there are a lot of machinists out there, but not many can instruct, you are a great teacher 🧑‍🏫

CNC is cool and all, but this kind of machining is really fun to watch - and learn from. Thank You Adam.

This video content is THE reason I am a paid subscriber from SNS 3. I absolutely love the HAND machining. E.g. "that is not a proper touch.", "that is a machinist fit." These comments are based on Adam's eyes and fingers, not on some _computer_ The proof is in watching that bearing nut float so smoothly onto the threads. It is a delight to see how the human body can correctly "feel" the microscopic elements that must be perfect to allow that nut to glide on so beautifully. AND we get commentary that illuminates Adam's thought processes, which makes it openly obvious that he is using his training in an _intentional_ way, making machining decisions based on accumulated experience which has given him the "feel" needed to get that nut to glide on so smoothly.

I found the segment very interesting as I ran a large paper machine for many years in Minnesota. There are few American manufactures of heavy paper machines in this country now days. The last paper Machine we purchased came from Brazil and was not of great quality. The fine machining was done in Wisconsin and Germany. It took many years of hard work to rebuild this machine to make it work properly.

Adam continues to be the standard of excellence in machining. The more machining channels I watch, the more I appreciate Adam's attention to detail & order of operation. 💯

G'day Adam. Nicely setup, & as a bonus you showed how quick you can setup the tube in a 4 jaw chuck.
The chip protector on the steady rest is a very good idea.
Very nicely done set of threads & machining. The whole segment was very informative. Well Done
