Very cool man. It sounds rhythmic and squishy. I’ve been dabbling in my antelope emulations of altec and varimu style compressors. I mastered a clients 54 minute house mashup and just by applying serial compression to the lows and mids with the slower compression curves I created the ultimate pumping rhythm. There is something magical about compressing until the entire signal well into the threshold. People don’t realize that knee is not linear and there are sweet spots well into “too much compression” territory. Especially on old tube gear

I think recording extreme metal vocals through this thing would sound amazing. Both high pitched screams and low gutturals could benefit greatly from this extra 'color'

Great book. I bought it when it first came out ... and nearly swallowed my own face when I recently saw what they are selling for now. Though it did let me know what I’m reaching to save first, if my house is on fire. 😉

It adds some really nice color, too bad sidechain options weren't a common thing back then. But in paralel I could find some great use for this compressor!

Ugh, we're comparing the original stereo claps to mono claps coming from the Altec, not too good, especially on headphones

For Vocals, have you considered trying something from freesound.org or samplefocus.com? I've never used samplefocus, but freesound is a fab resource of regular-to-bizarre samples that are free and aren't copyrighted.

jeez man, just to demo the altec there was no need for a vocal sample from adele, beyonce or elton john ! even a simple recording of your voice saying 'my cat just swallowed a mouse' would have been ok. the goal was to show how it colors and compresses the sound, no need for a 10 seconds recording from adele using a neumann

I'm sure if i type on google 'copyright-free vocal samples', I'm going to find +100 vocal samples anyone can use. in less than 60 seconds. but really, your voice would have been fine already.
