First of all, like Steven says, parents by and large, are not consenting to this, which is why the state and the school districts are trying to intervene on behalf of the kids, at the expense of parental rights. This entire issue is in the front to parental rights, and the law in Tennessee is attempting to restore those rights to the parents.
Second, we are only talking about treatment for minors here. No minor should ever have the option to get these kinds of treatments, no matter how much the child, or one or both of the parents, may want it done. We don't allow minors to have credit cards, make major purchases, or access a number of other services, until they are adults. And those things are far less important than having the supposed right to mutilate your body to conform to some sort of fantasy stemming from mental illness. And it sure as hell not going to happen at the expense of parental rights.
