When the adaptation become a comedy
It hurts.

Anne from the books would have accepted the compliment with a thank you. She would think to herself, “He is being over the top with his flattery.” But she’d keep it to herself. She was never one to act belittling or critical. Nor that sensitive. Anne was a wonderful reader and loved poetry. A big plot point. She would have understood the liberal use of words, like ‘Dazzling Creature.” The word itself wouldn’t have bothered her, the fact that he barely knew her and was gushing like they are soulmates would have. It’s a fine period film if you didn’t know the actual characters.

This is not Anne Elliot. They should have either respected the original work, or come up with an original body of work.

I LOVE this movie adaptation. I am especially delighting in how all the haters are gnashing their teeth, & ruining their physical features with their hatred.
The movie version had to be different from the book: having Anne talk to the audience & explain who all the many characters were made it a LOT easier to follow than the book… and I appreciated how they added comedy to what was originally a dreary, gloomy book to read. 🙌🏼
Those 7 years of nothing between Anne & Frederick was heavily felt in the book indeed.

This movie made me ship Mr Elliott with Anna more than her with Wentworth and that's what makes me mad about this movie. Because I'm not supposed to ship her with Mr Elliott, I'm supposed to be rooting for Wentworth but the truth is, the two of them met better than she did with Wentworth and I know in the books, that Wentworth and her got each other on a deep level but here, it was so pretentious

Jane Austen is turning over in her grave over this travesty of an adaptation of woke trash! Please, enough and never again!

Why is Elloit seems better than Wentsworth? Like they totally miscast the characters. Why are MALE directors trying to ("be cool with the kids daddy-o") by making all female characters "quirky"? Sometimes quiet strength is a virtue too.

I'm a great fan ofJane Austen's novels and I am still in love with this movie version of Persuasion. I have watched it so many times already, and the poignant, etheral song at the end is perfection. ❤

I mean I can kind of see what they’re trying to do with this movie. Kind of a more quirky comedy and trying to be relatable and stuff. And if you like the movie that’s totally fine. It is what it is. But this is definitely not a very faithful adaptation 😂. And I get that there are a lot of adaptations out there so why not do something new, but people like having a new but still faithful adaptation for their generation. If your period movie has to be this modernized for you to like them, I don’t know why some people even watch them. I personally prefer a more realistic period piece. Although that’s not to say crazy parody like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies doesn’t have their place too😅

What an utter atrocity and insult to Austen’s genius and her fans to boot.

I wouldn't wanna be called a creature either to another man! It sounds more like a disrespectful degrade! It's like him telling another man that his woman is a wild one infront of her!

Dear feminists. Just stop trying to Austen already. You can't do it. This is getting embarrassing. How is this worse than Mansfield Park 1999? I thought that was peek bad feminist rewriting. But you've surpassed yourselves.
