For a long time now when you wanted to filter multiple data sources you'd have to use a parameter in Tableau. This worked well but had is not without its own limitations. Namely, the limited parameter interface choices and the need to use a calculation to apply the filter.

Now in Tableau 10 you can accomplish this same capability with an even better user experience using the new Cross Database Filters.

Oh my I can't explain how useful this is. Thank you a ton. I would have left out more of the parameter talk and go more in depth in the related databases in a more complex situation personally. The biggest issue with Tableau forums, YouTube etc is people using extremely simple examples versus a real life project example. Still very helpful and a great explanation. 2 thumbs up.

Hi Ben, Just to confirm we need to have a common field like date field to use from multiple data sources right ?
If so how many data sources can we use in a dashboard ? Thank you. :-)
