My favorite museum cleverly used Gallery 735, the circular panoramic view of the palace and gardens of Versailles as the backdrop for this pulsating/ fencing display of fashions. These garments were shown at the real palace on November 28, 1973 at what was dubbed "the Battle of Versailles," pitting 5 American
designers (Bill Blass, Halston, Stephen Burrows, Anne Klein, and Oscar de la Renta) against 5 French designers (St.
Laurent, Givenchy, Ungaro, Pierre Cardin & Marc Bohan for Dior).
