Tatoi - The Royal Palace, Athens Greece

As years and days go by, one can only imagine the moments that this place has played in the Greek Modern History. From the Balkan Wars to the Second World War and finally the abolition of monarchy in Greece. From this place, important decisions have been taken that shaped the history of Modern Greece between Kings, Princes and Politicians. Although quietly fading away, these old ruined buildings take us to other ages of history full of triumph and victories.

Extremely sad and disappointing to see how the Greek government still neglect Tatoi which is a huge part of Greece’s history. Greece can still do something about it. Restore the monarchy. Republic didn’t work for you.

this site should be preserved, it's an embarrasment what has happened to this property. the greek government should find the means to restore it , maybe make  it a museum of the  royal hellenic dynasty. it's part of our heritage... if only my late father who was a guard at this palace can see the condition it is in.. very sad.

Alexia unfortunately the main Palace building is closed to the public. However, all the other buildings and places of the Tatoi Estate are open to the public and can be visited without any special permission.

I think its a mistake not to fix up this place. Look at the Chinese Government, how they keep the Forbidden City (former Imperial Palace) in good condition. Now, China makes a lot of $$$$ from tourists. The Imperial Palace is Beijing's #1 tourist spot. The Greek Government should do something & turn it into a tourist hotspot. Why not, Tatoi is part of History.

shame, shame, shame!!! This is one of the few palaces in Greece and it should be restored to its Grand Beauty or sold it to a private investor who can develop it to a business, spa/hotel since the Greek government has no plans or appetite to make it into something that will produce income.

...above all, whose pockets were filled with exactly 20 million Euros given by the EU for the restoration of Tatoi? As can be seen by everybody, not one cent of this money actually went into saving Tatoi...

The royal family should return to their palace.

It is sad the way the Greek government has treated their own Monarchy. The lack of forgiveness of past errors does no one any favors. They would be wise to modify their Constitution, emulating the relationship that the House of Windsor has with Britain. King Constantine should be allowed to serve his country.

were you able to enter the palace to take photographs freely or was there some sort of security? Did you get permission?

Yo creo que el gobierno Griego debería refaccionario y convertirlo en una atracción turística de ese país!
