and what is your distance when you use tan, you should find using sin gives a smaller distance (if its perpendicular to l2). to find the shortest distance it has to be perpendicular to the line, either l1 or l2 (if you've done fp3, it be both if the lines are skewed). is just taking the two possibility if u will.

If you look in your c2 book, page 24 and example 6. It is similar to that, hope that rings some bells

I don't. It would not matter, let the maths do the work. It would result in the same working.

How do you know how to draw the vectors? When I drew it point B was was below the point of intersection

When do you use the dircetion vector instead of the postion vector for the lines? It confuses me so much

hello i also have the same problem as topspinserve, when i draw my diagram, i have AB was adjacent, and AX being the hypoteneuse and BX being the opposite and therefore i used tan69.1 = (x/root56). i draw both diagrams out but i fail to understand where i went wrong because i can't find a flaw in my methodology, everything seems correct. Please if you could help me i will be most grateful

when finding the shortest distance, is your point always going to be perpendicular to the closest point on the line?

hi exam solutions, i need help with sketching the vectors i got the right length of AB but on my diagram AB was the adjacent side.

how do you know that the point B is exactly where you put it? why can't it be on the left side?
