Captured by smugglers when he was just a hatchling, a macaw named Blu never learned to fly and lives a happily domesticated life in Minnesota with his human friend, Linda. Blu is thought to be the last of his kind, but when word comes that Jewel, a lone female, lives in Rio de Janeiro, Blu and Linda go to meet her. Animal smugglers kidnap Blu and Jewel, but the pair soon escape and begin a perilous adventure back to freedom -- and Linda.

This movie was my childhood, whenever I watched it I would get my bird stuff animals and pretend to make a story out of this. A couple years later I rewatched it and I still love it

I am completely obsessed with this movie. If I could start an entire channel based on Rio, I would, but my family would criticize me for it. Still, I absolutely love this movie and can't get enough. And you know how I discovered it? I saw the menu screen playing on a TV in a grocery store. That's crazy.

Blu is so adorable he’s such a funny, cute and lovable character, in fact it’s one of the reasons why he’s my favorite character (Jewel my second favorite is also really adorable as well especially when she warms up to Blu they are such an adorable couple together) (p.s I love this movie even I am 20 years old)

I own a DVD of this and Rio 2 and absolutely love them. I love all birds, especially parrots and budgies, and I feel they have souls. I just love the scene where all the birds were having their "Carnivale" in the forest. Very pretty and joyful! I have to admit I got a little teary when the poachers were grabbing the birds, when I saw all the birds in cages and little Blu shivering in a cardboard box. I was hoping for, but didn't see, a special feature on my DVD that would include information on helping to protect wild birds from destruction and kidnapping.
