Hear me out…
Super Mario Blossom.

Mario goes on a adventure to the Wonder Isles to stop Bowser from conquering all it’s power.
The Wonder Isles are a mid air Archipelago that flies over the Flower Kingdom, overflowing with Wonder energy. It is said to be the place where the first Wonder Flower blossomed.
Mario will journey through the land and collect Wonder Sprouts before Bowser does. Very similar to Bowser’s Fury.

Along the way, mario will encounter this game’s new companion: Wanda the Wonder Wand.

Wanda is a living Rose Like flower which can be used as a wand to open walls like Bowser Jr. in Bowser’s Fury, summon stalks to reach higher places, and even fly!
However, one itty bitty problem.
She’s VERY sneezy. And when she sneezes, Wonder Chaos ensues!
When you pass by Golden Flowers (which are checkpoints) Wanda will sneeze and alter the area!
She could summon moving pipes, Grow the room in size, or even change the art style!

That’s the basic idea. What do you think?

It’s definitely gonna be a new idea like you said, only one 3d Mario game has every gotten a direct sequel and that was because Galaxy did well and they had a lot of extra ideas

It’ll be a new idea for sure, not a direct sequel.

As for what kind of game it’ll be… I think Bowser’s Fury gave us some idea. It could either be a bunch of Lake Lapcat-sized maps, or have one GIANT Lake Lapcat type of map, where everything is explorable without loading screens or barriers. My guess is that they’ve wanted to do this for a while and have gotten closer with each try, and they were likely limited by the hardware.

my guess is odyssey 2. It's gotta be such a money saver to not have tor rebuild your entire engine every release. And the fan don't usually get tired of seeing something only twice. I would be very happy with that.

The likelihood of Super Mario galaxy 3 is remote, because Super Mario Galaxy 2 did not sell very well at all. In fact, it was the worst selling 3D Mario game Nintendo released.
