I feel like Cole was added in order to have someone the characters we knew explain what is going on to. Like if it were just Sonya looking for Jax there wouldn't have been the whole explanation of the tournament going on for centuries and so on. I heard from Jax actor there are 26 fight scenes from different characters in the new movie. It's a fight almost ever 8 minutes the movie. So I'm happy for that.but yeah. Cole Young was not needed. Make Liu Kang the main character man
