Dogalen a Mabaso - Stellenbosch University Choir

The composer employs ostinato patterns and bitonality to convey the story of Dogalen. Dogalen snatched a charm from an old woman. With the charm she planned to enchant a rich sultan. However, the charm fell from her window into the hands of another woman, Raga. As the sultan passed by, Raga presented the charm to him and he fell in love with her. Dogalen’s heart was broken.

I discovered this choir only a few weeks ago and now listen to it regularly to soothe my sorrows.

Every day on earth I thank my creator for the two gifts he has given mankind.
The first is to be able to appreciate the beauty of his creation.
The second is that we too can create beauty.

This choir creates beauty that I fully appreciate.
This beauty brings pleasure, joy and happiness not only to those who listen, but also to the choristers and to André. You can see it on their faces.
