In my opinion, Indian Railways have done a good work in the last few years.. Most of the suburban railways are more or less on time, the busiest and the remotest stations have developed a lot and the local trains are cleaned and well maintained...
It's important considering these are the means of daily commutation for millions in India.

Some dumb "omniscient" railway bureaucrat with no knowledge of economics and driving forcrs of the market kept ticket prices of these AC trains almost as high as AC cab fare making hiring of AC private cabs monetarily more attractive to travelling families and groups and consequently the AC trains ran empty incurring huge loss over their operating expenses for last few years. Finally somebody corrected that abysmal stupidity. This fare reduction not just helps in competing with AC private cabs but also encourages regular non AC commuters to upgrade to a more comfortable journey bybpaying little extra which is good both for their health and the economy. You would get more business if you divide these AC coaches among non-AC EMU rakes so that they run all throughout the operating hours regularly with those rakes instead of just few times a day as an AC only rake.
