And, for that sort of child rearing, we get Millennials!!!! AKA Snowflakes, Buttercups and Cupcakes!!! People who have to have safe rooms, puppy dogs, hot cocoa, blankies and story time to help them adjust to REALITY!!!! Oh, yay!

The award I value most is a second place medal, because it actually meant I was good and it pushed me towards one day getting that first place.

What's going to happen to these kids when they apply to colleges and get rejection notices or apply to their dream job and not even get an interview? Will they brazenly go to the school/job and demand to be accepted because they're "special"?
We must first and foremost love our children, protect them from danger, teach them good values, and let them know how important and meaningful they are to us. But what Ms. Gledhill argues is ridiculous. Okay, she wants to "protect" her kids, so maybe she should keep them in a padded cell 24/7 so they never get "harmed"!
She also needs to read the Bible more carefully. Jesus preached love and compassion, but he was also very stern: scolding the Pharisees and scribes, calling out their hypocrisy (Matthew Ch. 23) and rejecting the money-changers in the Temple of Jerusalem (John 2:16). Those are not the acts of a wuss!

I have a speech I give in a speech & debate league about participation trophies and "everyone's a winner". I quote Ashley Merryman in the speech, but up until now, I didn't know who she was.

I rough house with my kids too, and it IS good for them, but you don't throw a 10 month old baby around on a bed whipping his head back and force. It's common sense.

What Gavin said at 4:42 is right. You're not as handsome as Brad Pitt or as pretty as Kate Upton, you're not as intelligent as Stephen Hawking, you're not as athletic as Stephen Curry and most especially you are not as good a singer as Idina Mendel!!!! If a third grade soccer league won't reflect that the school and job rejection letters will.

I got a participation trophy once. I fucking hated it. When it became mine it became the target for 100yrd shots with a pistol, damn that was a lot of 38ammo! Knocked it over plenty of times, took a long time to break the base.

Can you imagine what that woman would think if you told her that her blog sucked?? I bet she'd throw a fit as if she was a child. Why? Because she knows her own advice is horrible and to acknowledge that would be to invalidate her career, and probably her own childhood. Sad!

I see a lot of "devouring mother" archetype in this video.

I saw a documentary years ago showing an african woman playing with her baby in a segment where sociologists were illustrating why they think af ams are so much better at sports, and gavin mcinnes was coddling his baby compared to what the african woman was doing, picking the kid up and swinging it around her head

I cannot like this video enough. As a martial arts instructor I have seen what happens when children get trophies or belts they don't deserve.

And the safety bullshit is getting out of hand. I entered martial arts at the age of 10 knowing good and well I could get hurt. I DID get hurt, I still do. But it's always a lesson. A broken finger or ankle really isn't as big of deal as people think. Sure it's scary, disgusting to witness, and it hurts when it happens. But with martial arts in particular you're training to defend yourself in a life or death situation, if you baby it and tell a person good job, when they aren't doing good at all, ultimately- if in the rare occurrence, they do get in confrontation you might ultimately be the death of them. They will get severely injured and may even die because you padded them up, told them to make zero contact, told them good job, then gave them trophies for... Showing up.

They will for a fact die if they think they can disarm a bad guy only to find out they got awards for something entirely irrelevant. Participation is expected, it shouldn't be rewarded.

Helping an old lady cross the street shouldn't deserve an award, people in fact most would stop doing good deeds if they were recognized for them. The genuine people would dissappear and narcissists would take their place. Do you really want a self-obsessed person doing normally compassionate unrewarded deeds? I know I don't.
