Sowing dates, no rush in early May

preview_player
Показать описание
I show the low soil temperature zone 8 on 3rd May, and have not yet sown climbing or French beans. This coming week is good but under cover so that germination is strong and seed not wasted.
The word "bean" covers many possibilities. The broad beans behind me were sown November and soybeans for Edamame a week ago, in the greenhouse.

See my website Sowing Timeline for best dates for each vegetable.

I have found keeping to any kind of time table very difficult this year, it took literally months for my seed orders to come through so my whole time table has gone to pot. Still I am battling on, it will just mean that everything will be a little late this year. My old grandad who was head gardener on an estate, always used to say that Spring was a lot longer than people thought and that one week in warm ground was worth a month in the cold. Thank you so much for all your advice, I just loved your books. Just shows that this old dog CAN learn new tricks.

I've just recently stumbled upon your videos and I must say your knowledge about gardening is inspirational. I used to garden with my father when i was younger, watching your videos brings back cherished memories.

I’ve been sowing furiously in the last few weeks, I’m still amazed when they become plants! This is my first year ever of gardening, and if there’s a space something goes in it, so under the big olives in pots, oak leaf lettuce, strawberries and purple and holy basil. First harvest of strawberries was 10 days ago!

We're not here for the audio visual quality, we're here for Charles' pearls of wisdom, passion and ever so slightly inebriated camera presence.

Fantastic! Thank you Charles. I love it when you talk about crops that you have not mentioned in your previous videos or when you are bringing new material to our attention.

Thank you Charles I'm relieved that its still early. I was a little stressed that I'm too late already. Time flies when you garden.

Thank you Charles for your common sense and for quietening down my worry about getting everything sown now before it is too late. We are a bit warmer here in France, which is a big help with germinate, but, the weather is so unpredictable too. Many thanks 🙂🌱

Just got your gardening diary, well, it's mine now.😉 Really love it. One of the things I respect about this book is that we can use it til it falls appart as you have only used the callander number, not the day of the week. You may not have your beans in the ground, but looks like everything else is! What a nice video to make us all feel better. 😉😂 🍻
