My favorite adventure bike has 25 horse power

The CRF250L carried me through everything: icy roads in France, breathtaking coastal routes in Spain, and the grueling sand dunes of the Sahara desert. Along the way, I met incredible people, including a barefoot local named Hasan who took my bike for a joyride in the middle of the desert. And the craziest part? Back home in my garage, I had a brand-new Yamaha Tenere 700 waiting for me—bought specifically for this trip. But after some test rides, I left it behind. Now, after 25,000km, I know I made the right choice. This video is not supposed to hate on big adventure bikes as they certainly have their place. I just want to offer a different perspective from an average rider.

I really wanted a Tenere - they're sick looking bikes and no doubt they rip; but the more I read about them, the more I saw reviews from average riders saying that a Tenere is a LOT of bike to handle when things get technical or tricky. I then had the privilege of riding a 300 rally over 700kms in Costa Rica in a week last year. That experience sold me on snagging a 300 rally when I got back home. I've had that bike for about a year now and couldn't be happier with my decision. Light bikes for the win!

This is the most important message to all people who wants to go on adventure bike trips. Choose the bike you are most comfortable with, not the most power or tech. You don't need 700 or 1200cc's to have fun. This is why I will never sell my suzuki drz400. This is the most reliable motorcycle I've ever owned. I store this bike for 1 or 2 years at a time, put on fresh gas, oil and a battery and it fires up in an instant. This thing has never left me stranded!

Light, manoverable, engines that start every time all day, all night. Ridden all Hondas in the lightweight capacity through cambodia, honda 250 xl degree, Vietnam crf 15O, Thailand the Rally 250 cc, Philippines the crf 250, and gonna be riding the Baja 250 cc in Sri lanka...so to those big bike "Adventurer's"!!, who pass me with their noses way up high and their sidepacks loaded like camels, are probably the same ones who never see off road experiencing the real freedom that these Little tough guys give you 😊😊😊

Bought a DL650 vstrom, enjoyed it for a year, sold it, bought a R1200gs, found it to expensive to maintain, sold it, bought a 08' KLR650, I'm a happy man 😂

Thanks for the awesome video..! I just recently bought similar dualsport, a Kawasaki KLX250s. I think I love my bike for all the same reasons you love yours. I’m a youthful 60 year old that hasn’t ridden since I owned a street bike in the mid 80’s. It’s been refreshing and exhilarating to get back in the saddle again after all these years. I looked first at Hondas in the used market but decided on a low km (8000km) Kawasaki because of price point. Here in Canada, they are usually about $1000 less than a comparable Honda. What I learned in my research as you mention, the Honda is bulletproof reliable but lacks in suspension. The Kawasaki seems to have a better suspension (at 73kg it more than handles my weight) close to similar reliability but carbureted not fuel injection. I’ve only put about 500km on it so far but look forward to some Canadian adventures where the mountain trails and gravel backroads begin are less than 20lm from my home.
