The defensive mid Doesn't cover the half and wide spaces behind the wingbacks, he drops into defence and one of the centrebacks will move across to tackle, if the defensive mid moves wide he is no longer screening the 2 centrebacks and would leave a massive hole for a #10 to exploit. Partey is a box to box midfielder, which is why simeone wanted to pair him with a ball winner like torreira which would free up party to get forward more. he won't be sitting deep in arsenal's midfield 3, xhaka will sit deep and partey will play box to box alongside a playmaker/mezzala like ceballos. Just because partey can play Def mid it doesn't mean he is one.
