Check Valve or One Way Valve - Spring Type

A quick look at a cutaway of a spring type check valve for plumbing.
This type can be used in all orientations. Some check valves rely on gravity and those are often limited to 1 or 2 orientations.

Can you remove the spring completely (in a vertical setup) so water pressure closes it and gravity opens it again

One thing I don't understand about check valves, I see them mostly made of plastic. Will that be strong enough for high pressure plumbing system of 1000kPa? Plastic? Really?

I think you should comment on how to replace the valve when it is worn, I assume the body unscrews apart. Also why is everything made of plastic now, wouldn't a metal valve be better.

i have install water pump to increase water pressure in my house..the water pump effect kinda delay as the pressure built up..will this retain pressure if i install this valve after the water pump?(so the pressure retain normal as it had increased as my water pump doesnt have one way valve)
