The OpEx Webinar - Episode 7 - May 2018 - Why Inclusion in Engineering is Good for Business

While more women are graduating with four-year degrees than men, they’re underrepresented in the engineering industry, especially within senior and executive positions. In fact, the number of women has increased in numbers in virtually all professions previously dominated by men, except engineering, where there hasn’t been an increase since the early 2000s. And many are leaving the profession.

During the webinar, Jonna Gerken, President of the Society of Women Engineers, which has more than 35,000 members globally, will share her background in manufacturing and engineering and how she ended up where she is today: a manager in manufacturing engineering for Pratt & Whitney. She’ll discuss with The OpEx Webinar host, Liz Duggan, the need to address the gender disparity to close the gap in STEM fields and help businesses thrive – the goal of OpEx.

Jonna also share ideas for how to do it by ending patterns of bias in areas from pay to advancement, building and managing diverse teams, and changing the workplace culture to make it more hospitable to women through strategies like flexible work arrangements.

You will learn:

⇢ Why diverse businesses are outpacing those that lack diversity
⇢ How progressive companies help women thrive in manufacturing
⇢ Steps towards equality that will attract and retain talent in the industry
