In “Community Conversations,” five women from Brooklyn share their experiences facing childbirth and early motherhood at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. The film, a collaboration between The Dalio Center for Health Justice at NewYork-Presbyterian, CAMBA, and Caribbean Women’s Health Association, will be showcased at the Dalio Center for Health Justice Summer 2022 Community Celebration, held at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum on August 27th, 2022.

In the film, these moms discuss the many challenges they faced, from the stressors of new motherhood, to the barriers around socialization and the anxiety caused by limited childcare and support services. They share the ways in which they struggled to navigate parenthood in the throes of a global pandemic. The importance of sharing our own stories cannot be underestimated, and these narratives serve to amplify women’s voices and experiences.

The Dalio Center for Health Justice at NewYork-Presbyterian works to understand and address the causes of health inequities and disparities. This Community Conversations video series was an opportunity for mothers from Central Brooklyn to share their personal experiences and take steps to heal, while helping others along the way.
