That's one hell of a story, losing a backup and being so devastated by it you don't make anything again for 8 years

Personalising the cartridge for each customer was a stroke of genius. If someone decided to illegally dump the ROM online then everybody would know exactly who it was!

0:00 Jetpac was featured in Donkey Kong 64 as an unlockable after the player collects 15 Banana Metals. No doubt that it's because Rare used to be known as Ultimate Play the Game at the time this ZX Spectrum game was released.

As an American, my first exposure to JetPac was on Donkey Kong 64. It hooked me into retro games, and I love going back and playing games that were released long before I was born.

When he said "robocopy vibe", I thought, "wait... robocopy (the Windows copying command) has a vibe?"
Then I realized he meant Robocop-y

That gameboy from the retro future is amazing

Along with his demoscene legacy, Manfred Linzner is also the lead composer for Shin'en (which formed from his old demo group Abyss), and did some amazing work over the years. Especially their shmups. His music for the Iridion games on GBA are some of my favorites on the platform.

Great video! JetPak DX has become one of my favourite gameboy games. Quang did an amazing job at getting the gameplay right :D

Having your Game Boy cartridge custom flashed just for you is _amazingly cool_ and great value.

What an inspiring story, that was a really great interview.

I myself went into depression for a similar time and only just now feel like getting out of it. To pick yourself up after that amount of time and getting your passion back is quite the feat.

I really like this by what you have shown.
Not just the teamwork between you and other YouTube users but also the game itself.

1) It's a fairly competent port of a classic Spectrum game
2) the man behind it sells it as if it was a retail game back in the day
3) when buying the complete package you even get the naked ROM file and your name is in it.
4) it runs on both the DMG/SGB/Pocket as well as anything after the Color if so desired.

I feel like Quang is getting younger every time I see him. Also I think I said this before but it's always fascinating watching your videos with the captions on

The Gameboy reminds me of the starting of "Saved by the Bell" sitcom.

I knew of Quang from this channel and Octavius's, and yet somehow I had no idea he makes games. This looks awesome :-).

Of note: The switching colors mentioned at 11:36 is a feature of the RIPS IPS V3 screen and not this game. You can do this on any game with the screen mod.

A superlative Red Dwarf Robbie Rocketpants reference. Looks like you had fun as a Junior Birdman!

Great interview and game. I feel the love, it's really refreshing to see some happier stuff nowadays.

bravo my dude, I tried to make a game for the NES for my team in former company (they let us half a day per way to work on our own project, it was very fun and intelligent on their part), i was able to code the menu (I gave up here), and push it to a real cartridge. I can understand how hard it is, despite all the modern tech we have.

An excellent and inventive suggestion, sir, with just two tiny drawbacks. A, We don't have any jet-powered rocket pants. And B, There's no such thing as jet-powered rocket pants outside the fictional serial "Robbie Rocket Pants
