[ Undertale ] Megalo Strike Back - lullaby arrangement -

I've always wanted to arrange this song, but I wasn't sure what feel to go for. So I've gone with a softer feel. It's more of a lullaby??? Maybe??? That's what I'm calling it, anyways.

Since so many people associate this song with Chara (even though it's not actually in Undertale to my knowledge), I've made it into a bit of a theme for them, hence the particular melodies I've included. They're pretty easy to spot haha!

When Chara said "I am the Demon who comes when You call its name" I realised that the quote hinted at symptoms of depression, think about it, when we are depressed we tend to blame ourselves, an example would be that Chara, as a ghost, could not stop you from killing their loved ones, and as Chara is connected to Frisk, they share stats, most importantly LOVE. all the LOVE flowed into Chara and is the reason why they became hellbent on erasing the world, through LOVE, you taught them that the sole purpose of their resurrection was power, and because of that, they feel betrayed when you say no to erasing the world, because they are confused as the whole time they were convinced by you that their only purpose was power. It's kind of sad really, and at multiple times during the last moments of the game before the erasure, Chara, before they kill Flowey, hesitated, giving us as the player one last chance to exit the "game" and to preserve the happy endings. Chara's hesitation of killing Flowey is their final act of desperation before leaving the Underground empty (Mostly). this song kind of tells us how Chara felt, their sadness, anger, and hopelessness.

I like how this song can be taken as a soothing lullaby, a calming farewell to a fallen comrade, or the return of an ally that isn't quite themselves anymore.

"I don't think this is why I woke up."

Chara wasn't always a demon.
Once, she was a child. A small child with, 'a glint of hope in her eyes.'

She wanted to save her family.
She wanted to thank them by freeing them from their prison.

It was a mistake which cost her and her brother their lives. She split up her family, caused monsters to be farther from peace then ever, and, in her mind, murdered her best friend.

Then you called her name. You called her to assist you in your goal, using sheer determination. You rose her up. She woke up confused and soulless.

She wondered why she had been reborn. She wondered why she was back home...
She wondered what she had done.


And, you taught her her purpose of reincarnation. Over the course of your save file, you corrupted her. You taught her hate, rage, fear, and most of all, power.

You could have saved her. You could have given her a happy ending. You could have saved every monster, every soul, along with Chara's. But instead, you wanted to wipe them out.

You corrupted Chara. You twisted her heart and soul.

You turned her into...

*EDIT:* Holy hell when did this blow up? Uh thanks for the likes I guess, I wrote this during an inspiration rush. Also, a fun fact I didn’t know at this point was that Chara is soulless. She can’t feel compassion for anyone, hence why she allows Genocide on the monsters, and why she asks for YOUR soul at the end of Genocide. Plus it gives a new outlook on us SAVEing “them” in Pacifist.

*SECOND EDIT:* I love the jokes in the comments about this, but I just noticed a serious one (that I hope is sarcasm) and I have something to say about it and any others that follow.

They went on their adventure together, and in the end we got monsters to the surface
But they ended that fast
They reset, only to kill everyone
After a while, their genocidal ways consumed me
Then, I started enjoying it, in fact I killed the comedian,
And I would've killed my father
Only they finally reset, I went back to a non-corrupted state
But the thing is
The comedian remembers me doing that, if only faintly
He knows I'm inside and thinks I might be the killer here.
And as for my best
I don't blame them
I wasn't the greatest person
And maybe it was the pain of my past that never left but
He forgave me regardless
Of course I was annoyed with him when we died
And that was because of my spite for humanity
But.. then I realized
He wasn't comfortable with killing
He hadn't seen them as they are
And truth be told

I've always loved Chara's character -
The first human to ever fall into the underground, the one who became best friends with the young prince and was adopted by the king and queen

Chara wasn't evil - never was never will be -
The game was all about choice - our choice.
Our choices shaped the world we explored, the characters we met.

How they reacted to us.

Even if we don't notice it - it was Chara who was narrating for us,
We see that in the no mercy run.

Chara was a young child when they fell into the underground - and was only about Frisk's age when they "fell down" to help Asriel

We - the player - come in, if we chose to show Mercy, Chara is shown good,
If we chose to kill, Chara then believes that's how the world is

All throughout Genocide - we have the choice of going back, Reset and retry.
Even at the end with Flowey - you've got one final chance.

But most players blame Chara - say they were evil.

But what about their character would lead you to believe that?

Once - a young child fell into the underground for "not very nice" reasons.

They were found by Asriel - and were adopted by the king and queen.

Its clear from the little we were shown that Chara was very happy with the Dreemurr family, and that they loved them in return.

Chara was a child - a child easily shaped by the world around them.
They're only "evil" if the world around them shows them more dark than light.

Remember -
Toriel was Chara's mother,
Asgore their father,
And Asriel - even when a flower and souless - was still their best friend, their brother.

That's the title of Flowey's song -
Asriel always calls to Chara, uncaring that Frisk and Chara were different and he saw Chara "fall down"

He cared - They cared.

Chara was never evil. They were a stand in for us. The player.

They were as easily shaped in this as we were - we chose genocide, we chose mercy.
