Gotta appreciate a guy who doesn't let the watermelons he sliced go to waste.

the monster hunter one is held together by hopes, dreams, and PURE BADASSERY

I'm astonished by the integrity of the finished piece, I did not think the design would hold up to any real stress.

The reason the Switch Axe works at all in Monster Hunter, at least as the game's lore justifies it, is that it was initially developed by an ancient advanced civilization that went extinct. Also, they are made from the parts of the series' monsters, which are stronger than any metal and can thus handle far greater levels of stress.

Good on you for pulling it off at all, though.

Another awesome build. You are by far one of the best mechanical smithing channels on YouTube. Your builds may not always be the prettiest of things (this one looks really nice, the amber handle and blue steel are a nice touch) but they're all works of engineering art. Keep up the awesome work

Out of all the mechanical builds on this channel, this is by far the best looking one. Whereas the folding sword seemed like a prototype, a mechanical engineering idea, this seems like it works really well as both a sword and an axe, so it is actually practical to use. Also, looks cool af. Great job. I'd love to see more.

Axe mode switch into attack looks remarkably quite well! I bet if you were to make a second version improving on the design it would turn out perfect!

We need this design in Monster Hunter Wilds

I like that you recognize the issues with what you make. You not only do that but you joke about it as well. Great content and I respect you for the transparency.

it do be missing the elemental discharge tho. Strap a flame thrower to it.

You are a man who set up impossible desings and then you are really able to make them, anything else doesn’t matter. But this is not your only quality by far. Beautiful piece. And good entertaining video which is also very useful for begginers in smithing. Keep it up, I believe in you growing big here and I am glad that sponsors see it same way.

Great work! Honestly the only thing I can think of to improve it (beyond just, like, aesthetic things and maybe making it to where the axe part could hit the hinge dead-on and still cut) is maybe making some sort of latching mechanism so you can do the thing where you slide your hand down the haft while you swing the axe to get the impact of swinging from holding it at the base of the haft without the long wind-up of doing so without it stopping being an axe

20:27 - *And the award for the best death scene in a YouTube video goes to* *drumroll* This Pool Noodle for his portrayal of a sliced pool noodle in the 2024 classic Njord Artisan viking sword/axe build.
👏👏👏😁 Congratulations Pool Noodle.... That was the most dramatic death I have ever seen from a pool noodle, Well Done. 🎉🎊🥂

I'm blown away by your skill, the final result looks really good and is fully functional as well! I really do wonder if, in the future, you could try your hand at something like the hunter's axe from bloodborne? A large hand hatchet with a spear point that, through an extendable handle, turns it into a halberd?

I like how you sat there hitting a piece of wood for a hour to test the strength

I would love to see a collab between you and Alec Steele or maybe will stelter would be a better option these days. It would definitely be a huge boost for your channel and you absolutely deserve a boost. Your ideas are crazy cool. I would really like to see you go back to doing some normal knives and such though every now and then. But bro that axe is the sickest thing I think I've seen in a long long time on YouTube! Epic af

This is so insanely cool, and looks beautiful! The bluing, the amber, the freaking fluting??? I'm in love. If you were to make a second version, do you think some kind of catch so it stays in axe mode without you holding it would be viable? That way you could really take advantage of the different leverage from the weight shift.
