1 121 12321 is a great vocal warm up exercise for diction and pitch and breath management. Slowed down for beginners. Try this fun singing exercise using the scale degree numbers on an ascending and descending major scale. Can also be performed with tonic solfa syllables as below.
The scale degree numbers are relevant to music theory. Each scale degree has a technical name as written below.
1st degree – The tonic
2nd degree – The supertonic
3rd degree – The mediant
4th degree – The subdominant
5th degree – The dominant
6th degree – The submediant
7th degree – The leading note (or leading tone)
