The Brilliance of Chuck Schuldiner (Death Riffs with NO DISTORTION)

Hey there!

The reason I recorded this video is simply to show the brilliance of Chuck’s Guitar lines, how beautiful and melodic these riffs are and why I’m so influenced by them. I’ve always loved playing these riffs without any distortion because of how beautiful they sound, so all I did was put them together and record them as they are. No distortion, no nothing, just raw beautifulness.
Hope you guys will enjoy this just as much as I enjoyed making it. It was really fun.

Thanks again for watching and I’ll see you soon.

What good memories, played in medieval taverns of the 15th century, only the OG's 1542 kids will remember.

With no distortion, the classical influence that pervades Chuck's playing becomes more clear. What an absolute genius composer.

Anyone who still thinks death metal is "just noise" should watch this video. The arrangements and technical work on these riffs are still unparalleled.

I was recording in LA a couple of years ago and me and my buddy went for a beer in a tavern at Sunset Blvd, the guy behind the balcony asked if we liked Metal, we both long haired dudes said yes and he asked if we liked Death, I immediately said that I grew up on Sound of Perseverance and the guy said "Chuck was my cousin" - We were both speechless, he talked about they used to go down to the beach and Chuck always stayed playing the guitar in the garage all day long amongst other cool stuff you can only hear from a relative. That was the best break we could have from a session!

Great job by the way, Leo! You nailed it!

Without Judgement is the riff every deathcore band wishes they had written.

Most people don't understand how amazing Death was to metal music. All their albums were different and all were great. Favorite metal band. RIP Chuck.

To me, those melodies have some strong greek/mediterranean/arabic flavour to it

Feel like when you're really into a lot of Death or Black, and I am much more heavily into Black Metal, this is what you're hearing, the emotional content of these riffs cuts through all of the noise and distortion and energy, and that's what I get out of it, a lot of Black Metal tracks make me almost cry with their beauty, so hard to make friends and others understand.

You know your music goes hard when it doesn't even sound like surf rock without the distortion.

That’s the true test of any riff. If it sounds good on clean tone then it will sound amazing distorted!

These riffs seem so eery without distortion.

Very sad that I've shown so many people Death and they turned them down because of the vocals and distortion. I'm so happy to be somebody that thrives on vocals and distortion like that. It's a gift, that many people will not receive, to enjoy a band like Death.

This is a great example to show to that one friend who doesn't like metal music, that it is more technical, melodic, complex and emotional than they would think.
