Kimberlé Crenshaw on Ron DeSantis & justifying slavery

Legal scholar Kimberlé Crenshaw says recent right-wing efforts to frame slavery as “beneficial” for those held in bondage are part of an “old ideology” that was used to rationalize enslavement during the 19th and 20th centuries. "The attack on critical race theory, the 'anti-woke' attack on antiracism, it was always going here."

It's insane that DeSatan is trying to normalize the owning of another human.

I didn't know the "benefits of slavery" is an old idea. I did however recognize it as one of the most stupid things I had ever heard.

I didn’t learn anything real about African American history until a PhD program, in a class taught by a professor who was a student of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. My white midwestern liberal self was humbled. If what I was taught was the product of huge huge privilege, the even bigger lesson was how very little I knew and didn’t know it. I honestly hope that every white person in this country has the privilege of experiencing the shock of recognition of his/her/their own culturally-mandated ignorance. It’s a misused word, but there is freedom in learning just how much you don’t know. You can appreciate how much responsibility and effort you must take/make to find out about the world and your place in it. Keep educating America. We’re not a lost cause.

Before Africans had ever even seen a white man they ruled empires. They had cities. They had the most amazing skills. They didn't need as a white man to teach them anything.

it is not only a justification of Africans slavery. it is also a justification of capitalist brutality and exploitation of others work and profit from their work. it is a justification of the current wealth transfer from the poor to the rich.

I ask you, will he also find a reason to justify the holocaust?

Always be wary when anyone suggests erasing history from public consciousness.

What Dennis Prager defends as well. Absolute ignorance and proud of it.

Let's pack Florida Repugnicans into a cruise ship like this and see what useful skills they learn after 2 months of confinement

Being employed in America is about to get far worse. "You don't need time off when you have everything you need here." "You don't need healthcare, you have us as your family to take care of you when you're feeling down and out."

As a former genie who used to grant wishes, you mortals never learn your lessons about being careful what you wish for.

Oh? What's that? The rich and powerful will only do that to people who "deserve it?" Hah hah hahaha! Why do you think they are rich and powerful in the first place? Because they were nice?! Because they were fair and never lied? They're rich and powerful because they take advantage of whomever they can without discrimination.

The doctrine of "positive good" in defence of slavery was debated publicly in the 1800s, and there were abolitionist movements condemning slavery. The 13th amendment put an end to it in 1865. This debate is 158 years out of date.

I believe it was Morgan Freeman that said, "If you want to end racism, stop talking about it."

I agree.
