Australians won't see 'cheap political opportunism' from the Coalition: Treasurer

Australians won’t see “cheap political opportunism” from the Coalition when it comes to skilled migrants, according to Treasurer Josh Frydenberg.

Mr Frydenberg and Shadow Treasurer Jim Chalmers faced off in the 2022 Treasury Debate at the National Press Club of Australia on Wednesday.

“Those skilled migrants perform an absolutely vital role in our economy, helping to address some of those workforce shortages,” he said.

“Our focus is on addressing some of those workforce shortages which are very real.”

Mr Frydenberg said, however, this time around, when speaking to employers, the biggest issue is where they can get more workers from, which is “good news” for the youth entering the labour market and for the economy.
