The first guy didn’t die cause he lost the parachute, he had one on and he could propel himself out of the rocket like in a jet. He died because he passed out inside the rocket so he couldnt propel himself out in time before he hit the ground.

Karel Soucek didn't die with his barrel he used when he went over Niagara falls, as he only suffered injuries such as a broken nose and I also believe a broken wrist. But then at the Huston Astrodome he would try to recreate his stunt but this would tragically fail as the barrel used was not as strong as the one he used in his Niagara falls stunt. He sadly passed away on his way to the hospital, and I am myself a Niagara falls resident so I understand it's history and the many daredevils who have died trying to conquer the falls
