I've always wondered why in determination of characteristics curves, determinant is set to zero. Hitherto, I hadn't found an answer but thanks to this video, my curiosity has been satisfied. Thank you very much!

Very informative and educational sir. Thank you very much. I particularly loved your remark towards the end about Numerical methods for Parabolic/Hyperbolic PDEs, why Implicit methods work so well with parabolic PDEs while we use explicit ones for advection.

Can someone explain why the bottom equation at 28:00 has l_1 d/a at the right hand side? I do not see where this comes from if this equation follows from l_1 dv/dt + l_2 dw/dt
