On this version of "Deep Purple", recorded in 1947, Clark Terry is featured with the Charlie Barnet Orchestra at 02:03 playing one of his earliest-recorded solos - a solo that has become one of his own personal favorite solos of all time.

This is revealed in Clark's autobiography, "CLARK", which is available from Amazon or Barnes & Noble at the following links:

Cool 78 shellack of CT w/Barnet. Earl Swope was the trombone solo and a rare soprano sax lead for the swing era. Good to see you on FB.

No connection other than sentiment. Yes I am in NZ.
You brought not just pleasure but major excitment. I had actually decided that Barnet and Clarks' "Deep Purple" may have been on a LP recording which had one really poorly played track that was so bad that the composers family had asked to have it withdrawn. Charlie B had agreed that it was bad and apologised and it was withdrawn. BUT this one ISN'T IT JUST A WONDERFUL THING TO HEAR????
