My 2021 Ford F-150 PowerBoost has been nothing but PROBLEMS!!!

I have owned my 2021 F150 PowerBoost Lariat 502a now for a 5 months. This truck has been the best driving truck I have ever owned but has been riddled with electric / software problems. This video was supposed to be about how my experience has been improving after the APIM module was replaced however on my way to film that video, I noticed my heating and cooling system is having some serious issues. So now I am going to have to go in to get the HVAC system serviced along with the rest of the diagnostic codes looked at.

I have a 2021 f150 platinum. I have owned 20+ vehicles and I have never had as many issues like the 2021! 🤬
My a/c was doing the same thing. And it would flip sides one side cooled and the other didn’t. It happened while getting my first service. The “dealer” blamed it on the cabin air filter. Wtf?! That’s not the issue.
My screen also goes out. The “dealer” saw it and blamed it on my phone. I have an iPhone 12! 🤬
My fat left a/c vent and my fat right a/c vent both broke a week apart. “Dealer” said it can’t replace it because it’s not mechanical 🤬
When I fuel up, the distance to empty or fuel range varies from 320miles to empty / 530 miles to empty!! “Dealer” said that’s regular depending on how the vehicle is driven! Bullshit! 🤬 200+miles is a huge difference! I have a bunch of other issues and more problems keep popping up. The “dealer” replaced the a-pin numerous times and then said the radio needed ford updates. My truck sat over 90 days at the dealer in 2021
I made a case with Ford, I ordered a new 22 f150 back in December 2021. It’s been 7 months. Still no build date! 🤬
Out of all my vehicles, this one has been the worse, and bad dealer service and communication with solving real issues that they passed the blame onto something else instead of listening to the customer that the truck is the issue. Oh! They blamed me for not replacing the caving air filter and that’s why the ac has problems. It’s been changed twice under 25k miles. And my a/c is starting to smell like a wet dog. Again. “Dealer” said they will look into it. Truck has been sitting there since Tuesday and they can’t look at it until this Friday. 🤬
Now no other dealer will look at my truck because there is an open ford case on it. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤬. So I’m stuck using the dealer that I’m super unsatisfied with until I can get a new truck. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
The 2021 has been a nightmare and I see I’m not the only one with similar issues.

Other issues, back seats were coming unstitched, dealer wouldn’t fix so I found a nice seat shop that fixed it for free!!
4 recalls and they don’t know if they have the parts to fix. Front Passenger door has to be slammed to close correctly. Dealer said my passengers are closing it improperly. 🤬🤬 Back driver side door doesn’t open properly. They checked it 3 times and still not resolved.
When radio was first having issues, “dealer” technician wrote on service paper, “customer needs to read owner manual” cause they said it was user error🤬🤬🤬.
CarPlay still has plenty issues, maps don’t work. Screen doesn’t come on, navigation doesn’t work, Bluetooth doesn’t work properly. All these extra SAFETY OPTIONS DONT WORK PROPERLY!!!
Sorry! For anyone looking to buy… stay away from the 21’s! Especially used 21’s! They will have plenty issues.

I understand your frustration. Stuff that works good on this truck is the stuff you get with a base model but when you drop the big bucks on all those expensive bells and whistles you really want it to be flawless. I really want the Lariat power boost but I’m afraid of spending that kind of money on a vehicle I wouldn’t be able to trust

Perfect example of why you never buy a first model year of a new redesign. Always wait 1-2 years for all the bugs to be fixed

I feel your pain. I’m in the same boat with my 2021 Ram having electrical issues. I splurged and got a loaded Laramie with all the bells and whistles and I have been having random electrical issues that the dealer hasn’t been able to fix after 5 visits and over 120 days at the dealership. I’m in the process of filing for lemon law since Ram doesn’t want to offer buy back and I’m tired of paying for a truck I can’t use.

Really appreciate your honest ownership experience. My best friend is in communication with Ford on a buy back of his 2021 Lariat Sport Powerboost because of several no-start instances, A-PIN, and multiple communications failures. It sucks because he absolutely loves the truck and like yourself, was one of the last to get a "deal". Ford's actually being good about it and offering to help with his replacement. He's thinking a loaded Tremor now because the Powerboost has scared him too bad.

My ‘22 has been great so far, granted I’m a month in. Had a 2” level and 35x11.5 Ridge Grapplers installed on my stock 20’s. Love this truck.

I shared this with Dan not long ago. I purchased a Platinum Powerboost 10-01-21, and had my driver’s seat stop working and my transmission go out, within 4 days. Ford kept my truck for 22 days replacing my transmission on a BRAND NEW truck. I’m still trying to get my max recline fixed after a half job was done on my seat. I’m living and learning. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I have this truck. A year in and it’s amazing. I live in Canada. In the winter, it’s pretty great on gas all this considered. But in the summer, it’s amazing. It’s advertised as 9.8 city and 9.7 hwy mpl. Tonight I had 7.7! It’s just getting better I feel. A year in and everything is working better

I just bought a power boost 6 weeks ago. Always had pickups and this has to be the best driving truck I’ve ever had . Continue to document the problems and I am crossing my fingers with mine . Good Luck

What a bummer, I got my Lariat Powerboost right around the time you got yours (13k Miles on mine). Live in Northern MN in the freezing cold and for the most part mine has been flawless. The only time I have issues is when Ice and snow build up on the sensors but once it gets warmed up in the garage it goes back to normal. Carplay issues are the same on mine. It amazes me that Apple and Google play are not very dependable but I have just learned to always plug the phone in and forget it. But I am frustrated because it struggles to connect to the truck wifi while using carplay.

But I agree with you this thing is the most amazing truck I have ever driven but the electrical issues are concerning I won't lie. I hope mine will last for many years to come!

This is INSANE, you have a ton of patience, bless your heart. I would have sold that thing a long time ago.

I truly hope the issues are resolved.

This actually happened to me where the AC in the passenger side was really hot! But I restarted the truck and it never happened again. Honestly man I feel like you should lemon law the truck with the constant issues

Welcome to the club. Wish you didn’t have to learn this lesson the hard way. While most vehicles will be fine the ones that have problems like yours and mine really make owning a new vehicle a pain. Ford and the dealer got their $$, perfect in every way, you got the vehicle, imperfect in many ways. Wish I had my 2012 Silverado WT with the V6, crank windows, manual door locks, lever style 4x4 engagement and less electronics back. Not all is bad with the F150 though. Most comfortable, quiet and fuel efficient truck I’ve ever owned. 24mpg on one leg of a 4200 mile trip to and from Colorado. Solid 19-21 local driving before the weather turned cold here in Vt all on a 5.0 non turbo’ed V8. We could have a separate discussion on turbos but the tekkies don’t wanna hear it!

That's what scares me about these new cars/trucks....your not driving a mechanical machine anymore!....we're driving around in laptops!!...its just a 4 wheeled computer!...hope all works out for you with the truck!...thanks for sharing...stay safe out there!!😎🤙👍🤙👍🇨🇦

My new 2021 ford f150, just like yours, but with black rims, shut down and made a high pitched grinding sound, lost nearly all gas and brakes to get off the road, and all lights and warnings flashed saying every possible component was not working. i sat there with the truck off and barely off the shoulder, cars going by, and the hubby was looking up the number to the closest ford place when after a few mins, the truck stopped beeping and flashing all kinds of failures, and i was able to turn it back on. i drove it to the local dealer who can pull up its history right on their computer, by the vin number. thats kind of cool. but they dont know what caused it so im going to tell them about this ipim?? module that you mentioned. someone else here mentioned that hooking up a trailer caused issues and we noticed that our trailer lights were pulsing just barely, but that was odd. its in the shop as of today so wish us luck. i will post an update if i get one.

I've had the Same Problems with my 2021 Platinum, $73600 truck,
I've got 7400 miles on mine, My phone doesn't work., My power Tailgate
Doesn't work. This is after my Dealer put a new Apim in it last week.
This 21 Truck is so far the most trouble I've ever had on an F150.
I've had over 20 trucks too.

You hit the nail right on the head. It’s a great truck, however, the electronics are a complete nightmare. Lemon Lawed my ‘21 Lariat and got into a ‘19 Lariat. Bottom line.. I’m happy.
