Bryce on Victories in the Darkness

3 Nephi describes the darkness associated with the death of the Savior. A darkness like Earth has never experienced. Two of the greatest victories were accomplished in that darkness: One by the Father and one by the Savior. Those victories point to a victory that each of must have in our own darkness.

Another amazing video! Thank you very much! My heart has been breaking a lot dealing with my adult children. One has high functioning autism with no testimony. The other is an introvert with eye issues. Satan has been triggering my depression with fears of their futures. I have been fasting, praying, and going to the temple. No inspiration or answers how to help them. Yet my faith is strong because I know Heavenly Father is aware of us and has us in His loving hands. Yes, there's darkness, but I know He's there.

Thank you for the perspective you gave. In my darkest hour, for a relatively brief period, I felt abandoned by God. I was never bitter about it, but didn't understand why. Now I'm beginning to understand better. After that period of apparent abandonment, after that time when I determined which way to go, he returned and never left for the duration of the trial. Not even when I would awake in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, he was there. He didn't come after I awoke, he was already there. He was there watching over me even while I slept.

As I was contemplating that darkness and utter absence of light this week in CFM, it filled me with terror like nothing else. Could I bear it for 3 days?? After this magnificent lesson, I know I must! Even when it appears we've been abandoned. It will stretch every one of us to our capacity to call on a God who maybe can't come to us and comfort us in that moment but I'm hoping and praying it will be a smaller degree than the Savior's abandonment. Even the Savior didnt have 3 days without the comforting presence of his Heavenly Parents. But then, what a reward! To stand with those who also passed the test!! Thank you for this preparation to ponder what I'll do.

I can’t help but notice how much more full, complete and how far sweeter the restored doctrine of the Godhead makes the atoning sacrifice of the Lord as compared to the trinity. The restoration of the nature of God, Christ and the Holy Spirit allows us to see and take hold of the Atonement in a greater fullness than the we could with the trinity alone.

Bryce, have you ever heard of the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812? They were earthquakes that rocked most of what we now call the midwest, centered in New Madrid, Missouri. The Mississippi River flowed backwards, new lakes were formed, old lake were drained. Had there been cities there at the time, they would have been leveled, the homes that were around we flattened. Reports are that there were sand blows that shot so much debris into the air that the sun was blotted out. And because if was sand, torches, candles and latterns were either smothered as soon as they were lit or their light didn't make any impact.
I'd recommend the episode of "Hidden in the Heartland" about it, but it earily matches what was described in 3rd Nephi

The only thing I would add to Elder Ballard's statement and something that occurred to me within the past few years is the pain of our Mother in Heaven. Our Heavenly Father isn't alone in that pain of seeing his son suffer. In fact I wonder while in anguish Himself, God was in the distant far reaches of the galaxy comforting our Mother in Heaven, whose heart was also breaking?

Interesting Bryce; I have often wondered with Him asking why His Father had abandoned Him, if though He seemingly had a foreknowledge of all things maybe Heavenly Father didn’t tell him all and He wasn’t aware that His Father would withdraw His spirit. Who would want to know that in advance. That would be true terror, but for it to come upon us, then left to endure for awhile, but to eventually come out the other end, hopefully stronger, more resolute and totally sanctified.
