Yes, be honest with yourself and keep it simple! It is better to buy a cheaper boat and move to another one after 3 years vs spend 3 years for refit. Or learn how to invest and grow your money over this 3 years and just buy! Good luck :)

I enjoy watching sailing Atticus they do great videos. But I am totally shocked they paid $200, 000 for that Antique Boat. I doubt if they're paying anything for all the refits apparently that's what patrons are for. Glad you're explaining it to the newbies so they don't go out having to spend their own money.

Is it possible to get insurance for a CE Category B – Offshore classified boat, only made for up to 200 mill off coast, for crossing the ocean, which official require a CE Category A – Ocean classified boat?

Lol, I stopped watching Atticus when they bought the new boat, I typically only watch poor people with small boats. I was wondering why when they show up in my feed they're still in the boat yard. Now I know. 😂

A 10 year old sailboat will require additional 30% to 40% for the refit. So if you have a 100k Budget your purchase shouldn't a boat that's more then 60k....

I stopped watching the Atticus channel when they abandoned their Allied Seawind.
There wasn't anything wrong with that boat that couldn't be fixed (IMO).
They did a ton of work on Atticus..then boom lets do a Gofund me.
Over spent for a bigger boat and got stung by the surveyor.
Went from a great channel to a look at us channel..PASS!

Ok, so may I ask a question for clarification? I'm early 50s, single, in good health, and looking at retiring in a year or two. I'm the prototypic "going to do a lot of costal cruising and Caribbean, hoping to do an ocean crossing in the future" guy you mentioned. In one of your recent videos you said you wouldn't try a crossing in anything less than 37 feet. So should I aim for something 37' to low 40's, or could I be OK with something down to 35 feet? (I'm currently really liking the Beneteau Oceanis 40 or 411)
