I’m just starting out on the Mando and all of the videos I’ve seen suggest not planting your hand on the bridge. I come from a guitar background and I’ve always done this. Seeing these free floating picking hands gave me nightmares and I thought I’d have to retrain my right hand. Thanks so much for demonstrating it doesn’t have to be this way. Phew.

Very well said sir! Wish I’d seen this when I was first starting out.

I wish I'd known tip #2 (2 frets per finger) for the first 30 or so years....!

I disagree on anchoring your wrist. It should be free moving at all times or you will have major issues

What to do when the fretboard needs oiled? Tape the bridge in place with painters tape and remove all strings? Or just leave the top and bottom sting on and do the best you can, oiling the board.

You make me want to play a mandolin, but my wife would kill me. Maybe a banjo?
