Welcome to Early Warning Radar (EWR) where I give you advance warning of the latest upcoming and in-development video games. All games at the time of writing, are in either early access, beta, alpha or pre-alpha/concept stages.

Despite only being in pre-alpha this title is showing some serious promise! Ahoy will offer a long overdue, historically and mechanically accurate Age of Sail experience from a first-person perspective. We shall beat to quarters!

Looks stunning.
Fantastic idea.
I love the concept of a hyper realistic game commanding a ship of the period within an open world, however I would really wish a single player version.
Looking fwd to this one.

As an Age of Sail addict (especially the best fiction - O'Brian, Lambdin, and a hundred others), this looks like something reasonably close to a dream come true.

I've been an avid fan of the genre for 20 years now. I think this could be the game I've dreamed of for so long, which is why I'm backing it on Patreon. I hope they take as long as they need to make this game great.

While not my cup of tea as it's the wrong age, I do hope the devs the best to make the game they want to create. More historically accurate games!

Also a better similarity would be Ahoy to Sea of Thieves and Star Citizen to No Mans Sky

I cannot wait to play this game when it releases, I've been interested in the Ahoy project for a few months now, but my interest in the Age of Sail has been strong since childhood. I am looking forwards to sailing the seas in Ahoy, and most likely committing numerous acts of piracy along the way.

Also, fantastic video, it's a very well made introduction to the project for newcomers.

not gonna lie at all. this seems way better and way more fun than naval action even when it was in its prime stage of developement which was 2016-2020ish. can't wait for it to release. ill guarantee you ima be one of the first people to buy this game. its beautiful, realistic, and epic. im a huge golden age of sail history buff and love that time period. i say these are very accurate. nothing can be perfect but far as i can tell there isnt a single unrealistic aspect of the game (other than its a game of course lol) the ship battles arent gonna be historically accurate though unless people come together and recreate the battle which I'd honestly love to see. any idea what engine this game is made on? a couple of friends who are also interested in it say its unity like naval action was. im writing this halfway through the video cause i have to go to school will finish the video after my college class. if the video doesnt state it. will they add realistic damage, decay, rats, sicknesses, and repairing to the game as well??

The graphics and lighting look incredible! Some of the interior shots looked almost photorealistic. I really enjoy immersive historical games like this, because it almost feels as if you've transported yourself back in time. With that said, I find historical realism rarely survives contact with the modern memery of multiplayer gamers, so I would expect the actual experience of this game to be closer to Holdfast with ships than anything else (not necessary a bad thing).

My main concern would be that the development team's goals are extremely ambitious and the scale of this project is potentially too large. Assuming they intend to recreate other ships and locations with the same degree of detail reproduced here, it will take an extremely long time for a smaller size dev team to create the scope of the content they are planning for. Initially, I would recommend a smaller, more focused approach so the devs can prove that the core gameplay is fun before getting lost in a 10 year development cycle where there's no clear idea when or if a final game will ever get shipped.

Instead of watching that execrable film, have you read the books it claims to be based on? The "Aubrey/Maturin" series of 21 fantastic books by the author Patrick O'Brien is a wonderful window onto this world in the post Trafalgar Napoleonic period.

Almost as good are the "Carlisle/Holbrooke" novels set closer to this period in the 1760s Seven years War by Chris Durbin. Several of which are set in this very port!

I can't wait to see how this turns out, the initial visuals are beautiful. Just the sort of game I've been looking for!
