I remember watching that game sitting on my living room floor. When we won, everyone was screaming. It was an iconic game that I'll never forget.

Herb Brooks was also the last player cut from the 1960 American team. The last time we beat the Russians, and took home the gold medal, as he watched at home with his dad. Lord works in mysterious ways...

I turned 12 during that Olympics, and I’ll never forget my older sister coming home and telling the entire household that we beat The Soviets (she heard the game on radio). I remember my parents being so irritated with her since they wanted to not know and watch the tape delayed broadcast later that night!

I live in the Detroit area, close to the Canadian border and watched the game live through Kitchener, Ont. Canada (CKCO TV).

None of these bits of info are earth shattering, they were pretty well widely known for years.

Did ABC TV ever interview Jaime Farr from MASH who was at the US/USSR game at night or any other TV Network?? Yes, I did the 1981 TV Movie Miracle on Ice starting Karl Malden as Herb Brooks !!!

The US won cause they were the better coached team. Look at Herb Brooks body language opposed to Tikinov's during the game. Plus all the pressure was on the Russians, the US had absolutely nothing to lose while the USSR had everything to lose.

The 1981 ABC movie was horrid. I recall an interview with Jack O Callahan a few years ago stating the scene with his knee and his miraculous "healing" was total bullshit.

There’s a real possibility that you could not put a team together the same way that Patrick did he miss treated the players to a point that some threaten to leave but they knew that Patrick will destroy your career going forward if they did the way kids are treated now I don’t think you get kids to tolerate his treatment whether you agree or disagree with how we treated those kids the final goal was to win the gold medal but I think he wanted the metal for his reputation not necessarily a patriotic thing for him
