#LOST Season 1, episode 9 - "Solitary"

What's all those notations on Rousseau's map? Find out about it in this installment, the biggest episode so far.

There's no island like the Island from the hit TV show "Lost" (2004-2010), with its bizarre occurences, multiple treks and exciting locations. I've I decided to do something I've always wanted to do. Analyze every journey taken by the characters on the show. Episode by episode. Trying to connect the dots between all those impossible maps, confusing treks and mysterious locations.

BIG thanks for the translations done by Lostpedia (unknown user), Qasark and Zholmboe.

Theory 1 about the lighthouse is the much more likelier option. From that jungle you’d still see a huge lighthouse.

13:27 Ah, so satisfying. Great work as always! Quite possibly the best you've done so far - all of this is so incredibly detailed. I love how this deeper look into the geography of the island so naturally flows into story analysis. I never paid a lot of attention to the maps, so I never knew Rousseau had actually named island after Robert and Alex, or ever considered that she may not have drawn them herself at all. The fact that the "smoke" is mentioned is quite intriguing as well. It's also very cool to see just how far Sayid must have walked away from the beach camp.

I'm definitely looking forward to your take on "Through the Looking Glass" now. That 'error' at the beginning of the episode bugs me to no end... After the epic sendoff on the beach, I always imagine that they suddenly realized they were walking the wrong way during the title sequence and headed back.

14:17 Agree re Danielle's secondhand mapping of the dark territory. Otherwise it would imply she was spying on the monster and ran into it often and safely in different locations. Also the idea of a discrete territory is undermined by the vent system.

I find it curious that some of the island's landmarks are compared to a human (the heart, the eye). A lot of fans also like the idea of Jack fixing the island's spine in the finale and that the wheel is shaped like a chakra which is often associated with specific vertical locations on the spine. Following from that, perhaps the island is like an upside down person with the statue in the left hand, the pearl at true center, etc.

I love it, it's so interesting to see the characters path in relation to the features of the island. Sayids journey going past both the ladder as well as the Lighthouse is somehting I never even considered.
Would it be possible to get a link to your image of the island? Purely for personal, local use of course.

No way Sayid walked that far from camp. They didn't show him even walking much and he pretty much found Rousseau's wire straight away. Then Hurley did the same, straight away. Insinuating to me it wasn't that far away. There's no way. Also you didn't explain why Sayid or Hugo didn't see Desmond/Libby's boat? Never mind the lighthouse.

When you look up maps online. The tail end of the plane is sometimes at the top left (west) and sometimes on the top right (east). It’s bothering me I want to know which spot the tail of the plane crashed.

Anyone know if you can get a map of the island anywhere? Preferably the drawn on parchment version?

I'm French so I always cringe a little when I hear Rousseau speak french lol.
14:10 "Territoire foncé" has to be the worst possible translation of "dark territory". "Foncé" is only used to describe a color, not a place or a thing. A more accurate translation would be "territoire sombre".
Anyways it's nice to see that there are YT channels about LOST, the only other one I know is Dharma Station 7
