Windows Media Center Download Failure - Fix - Solved

After a clean install of windows 7 ultimate, on my new ssd,
media center would not download my guide listings. I got the error message: Download Failure:
"The new TV data could not be downloaded. The existing data, if available,
will be used as you continue through TV signal
setup." after days of researching, I couldn't find a video, and instructions were varied and unclear.
Microsoft said: its a know issue they are working to resolve. In the mean time, here is a fix
that only takes a few minutes.

Working IP Address as of 8/7/2016:



ipconfig /flushdns

you will need the ip for that site.

Just followed this step by step and it has fixed the TV Guide in my Media Center Install. This machine hadn't been powered on in over a year and came back to life with a missing guide. You're the man! Thanks for posting. Had the same problem after a SSD upgrade on my PC. After following your video, I had to try to download the TV Program Guide listing about 3 times. In-between attempts I would get the ..."download failure...downloadable TV Programs Guide listings are not available due to previous downloading failure, etc." But because of Jim's post, I kept trying and eventually it worked. Thanks again!

I replaced a bad hard drive in my media center, load a fresh install of W7 and had this problem.I worked on it

This is fantastic! I've tried many (other peoples) variations on this that haven't worked. Lost my program guide back in September when I had to reinstall 8.1 on a new hard-drive. You had some extra steps in there that I hadn't seen anywhere else, so I figured I'd give it one last try. I finally have my guide back after months without it! Thank you!!!

I "flushed config dns" and entered it in cmd. plus saved the link in notepad. after shutting down my laptop & turning it on I saw "changes have been made to wmc. however I still got download failure when entering my zip code. I live in Jamaica. I have digital cable supplied by a local cable company. Is it possible the cable co. has a block for using TV tuners or is it a problem with the zip code. Jamaica uses area codes instead of area codes. please help me.

My guide is incomplete---missing the HD channel data that are not clear (OTA) and following all the steps did not fix the problem. To be clear, the missing channels are there in the guide with call letters and I can watch them, just no programming data on those as far as what is on. I tried another suggestion to change zip code, and resetup TV in WMC but no dice. I also confirmed on the suggested first step on this video that the same guide for my zip code online shows all the channels correctly. Any other suggestions from the group? Thanks.

You're awesome! Thanks for providing this video! I've tried several attempts from other sources without success, but yours actually worked! The only issue I had was that I needed to download the TV Program Guide listing 3 times. i am also OTA and not getting the fix to work. I have followed the directions to the letter. In addition to the download failure error msg I get a msg that reads "Downloadable guide not available due to previous downloading failure. Any suggestions?

Hi - thanks for all your detailed info; however I don't have ObjectStoreRecovery Task in Task Scheduler.... I'm running on a Windows Vista (Home Premium) SP2 32-bit system. This task is not a featured option. Any suggestions on how to add it with an actionable trigger?

I was going nuts all week. had to do a recovery on comp and the guide disappeared from my Media Center. Finally found this video today. If I could do it....anyone can. It worked on one PC but not another. Used my zip code on the one that worked. New guide successfully downloaded. Tried multiple zip codes including the main zip of an adjacent "big city". Can't download the guide. Your instruction works. I'll just have to keep trying. Thank you very much for posting.

On the 3rd step. in taskschd.msc i do not have ObjectStoreRecovery. could it be under a different name?

Everything works until I get to running "ObjectStoreRecovery." It does not show up in the Task Scheduler. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Kudos to you Mac Daddy... problem fixed after the reboot step, I didn't need to set my channels up again. Seems like this gave WMC a needed kick in the ass to get the guide reloaded. Thanks for the help!

Worked for me thank you. I survived a old windows xp media centre pc out of the cupboard installed Windows 7 and follow your guide now have tv listings in Media centre finally. I'm from the UK so anyone who sees this. I can say it works in the UK :). Thank you for your guide xwhatever33x

It's not working for me, tried to follow everything here except for visiting the site. It updates, but then says there are errors. I only have 5 days of listings left!
