That Leica "look" probably comes from the lens. Low element count means microcontrast is higher, giving images more of a "3-D" look. This is in sharp contrast (no pun intended) to modern glass from Sony, Tamron, Sigma, etc. which have lots of elements and low microcontrast (but higher sharpness). This is the definition of the "leica-pop, " "zeiss-pop, " etc. terms that lots of photographers say - what they're really talking about is the microcontrast, which makes images more life-like. It's also why vintage lenses have a "look" - most of them are simpler designs with fewer elements.

I shoot with Sony, but for all the same reasons Pete likes the Leica, is also why I love my Fuji x100v too. Fixed focal length makes it more challenging for sure. But also great to travel with.

Shooting Canon for years I bought a Q2 a few months back. It is incredible. The take everywhere no fuss no hassles camera. I love it.

You summed it up at the end, Pete, when you said "I'm excited." Done deal right there. Doesn't matter if it's a $500 camera or a $5000 camera, if it's working for you and it's making you excited to shoot, that's a good camera to have. It's also the reason I own a Q2 also!

I love Pete's "vibe" in 2022. It's very child like and explorative. Watching him like this excites me to want to be even more curious and try even more new things or old things in new ways

This is the exact way I feel about my Fuji XT4. It’s pushing me to see things differently. I got it with a 16mm f1.4. And I never use wide lens so it’s been interesting, challenging and exciting!

Been shooting for 17 years also and I picked up a Q2 a couple months ago. It’s been super fun.

I jumped on the fixed 28 lifestyle about 2 years ago. I can never go back, it widened my perspective in every way.
Once you get the hang of composing more, turning clutter into context, it makes storytelling so much more poignant.
It's not far off a 24 in use, but just has a little less dramatic curving distortion.
It does everything. Except maybe moonshots.

My first job straight out of college was with Leica, creating CAD drawings of their incredible lenses. This was pre-digital and in the early days of computer-aided design. Sadly, even with my staff discount, a Leica camera was beyond affordable on a $14k/year salary. I did snag myself a Leica slide projector that I own to this day.

When I was just starting out I used to bring my a6000 with a prime lens everywhere I went. As I got into doing more professional work, my gear got bigger and bigger. And I took them to less and less personal trips. This year I picked up the sony a7c for somewhat of a similar reason as you. Grabbed a prime 35mm that’s compact and Yeah. There’s definitely something inspiring about simplifying your setup.

I've always thought there's something special about fixed focal length cameras. It forces you to alter your own perspective, not the camera's perspective. If you want something easy to use, don't get one. But if you want to push your own visual boundaries, get one focal length.

This is absolutely awesome.
Last friday i got my first pro camera, i've been doing photography since i was 11, i'm thirteen, halfway to fourteen now.
Just had an hour biking photoshoot session in the countryroads with my brand new camera. Few weeks ago wrote a long instagram post about value of memories and life, with a photo of my favorite cousin's shoes in it, and in my favorite place on earth. After all that, i got to see this :).
I just don't know man, Life is good :)

it reminds me of the feeling i got when I bought my Fuji x100f. The fixed lens and the manual dials just makes for an amazing photography experience. It takes you back to the basics and challenges your photography skills creatively.
